In the deserts of the Southwest can be found some fascinating plants called cacti. The plants come in many shapes and sizes. They have names like Hairy Old Man, Hedge Hog, Golden Barrel, Star Cactus, Organ Pipe, and my favorite the Giant Saguaro. Cactus require very little care and can be grown very well in dish gardens, terrariums, pots or in warm frost-free areas outdoors. Some varieties come up in as little as 3 days and some as long as 3 weeks. Many varieties bloom and produce edible fruit when mature.
